Researchers at the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM) would like to hear about your experience with addiction and its impact on your life. This study, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), offers you the opportunity to share your perspectives and the role of voluntariness in decision-making.

Would you like to share your perspective on drug addiction?

We’re interested in hearing your view.

Researchers at the IRCM would like to hear your thoughts on:

  • addiction and free will
  • the role of voluntary decision-making in the context of addiction

Who can participate?

  1. Members of the public who are not addicted to drugs and have never been addicted to drugs
  2. Adults (18 years and older)

What does the participation looks like?

Participation in this study includes taking part in a 30 to 40 min interview in English or French. Interviews will be conducted with the researcher at a location that is convenient for you or over the phone.

Compensation?

You will be compensated for your time.

Benefits of participation?

There are no known benefits associated with participation in this study. However, many participants find it satisfying to share their views in the hope that it will help others.

Would you like to share your experience on drug addiction?

Who can participate?

  • Anyone with lived experience of drug addiction:
    1. People who identify as addicted to a licit or illicit drug (e.g alcohol, cannabis, heroin etc.)
    2. People who are currently using and consider themselves addicted to a drug
    3. Peer support workers who have lived experience of addiction
    4. People enrolled in addiction treatment/rehabilitation programs
    5. People who are now sober but were once addicted to a substance
